Remember the words of Our Lord Jesus, when He said….
"ONLY BELIEVE"
Mark 5:36This is one of the briefest of words which Jesus spoke, but one of the most important and comforting. They contain the essence and epitome of all saving and encouraging truth.
Is Satan assailing you with tormenting fears, anxieties and temptations? Is the thought of your past sins and failures-the guilty past-coming up before you in terrible memories and shame; almost tempting you to give in to a hopeless despondency? Fear not! A gentle voice whispers in your ear, -
"Only Believe."Yes, perhaps your sins are frequent and great, but My mercy and merits are greater. Only Believe that I died for you; that I’m now pleading for you, and that "This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance
"(1 Tim 4:9).Are you a Backslider? Did you once run the course of holiness well? Has your drift from your Father God alienated and estranged you from that fervent, faithful, face-to-face fellowship which was once all love; and that service which was once all a delight to you? Are you feeling a broken-hearted sorrow over the holy memories of a once close walk with Our Father? Then, -"Only Believe."
Convert what you are now feeling into a prayer and it becomes what Jesus meant when He said, -"Only Believe." Only Believe the word of Him whose wisdom and ways are not man’s ways. "Return you backsliding children, and I will heal your backsliding" ( Jeremiah 3:22).
Are you beaten down with many heavy trials; have your best schemes and ideals blown away? Is there a wave after wave of failure rolling over you? Has Our Lord forgotten to be gracious and mindful of you? Then hear the word of Jesus, sounding in the darkest midnight of gloom, penetrating through the deadness of your spirit; "Believe, Only Believe."
There is reason for this trial! Maybe it’s a lurking thorn that requires removal, a gracious lesson that requires teaching to you. Perhaps this dreadful time is Our Father’s discipline in love. God will be glorified in it and you will grow in new and important ways that would never otherwise happen. So patiently wait and watch what the Lord is doing in all of this. It is not for nothing. You must take His dealings on trust. The word to you from Jesus right now is -"Only Believe."
Yes! Jesus had no higher remedy for sin, for sorrow, for suffering, than these words. At the utmost extremity of his own distress and suffering when he saw his disciples losing hope and despondent, He could only say to them, "Let not your heart be troubled: you believe in God, believe also in me." (John 14:1)
"Believe, Only Believe."
"Lord, I believe, help my unbelief!"
