REFLECTION

When You Have Sinned Sexually!

You have sinned again! You are feeling bad! You feel disgusted with yourself, discouraged, and defeated. You were feeling so close to the Father just awhile ago. Maybe it was just yesterday, maybe a few hours ago that you felt so spiritually alive and close to Jesus. Now you are in a kind of funk state. You don’t want to pray. You don’t feel worthy of even talking to God. You lost it all. You are humiliated! You feel devitalized, ashamed, guilty, disgusted. Maybe you’re getting a bit depressed and even saying, "What’s the use, I try so hard. I think I’m doing so well and then it happens again. Just after I sin, how easy it is to repent and feel resolved that I will stop. How can I ever have thought I loved God? I am such a phony; such a hypocrite; such a failure! How decisively I plan never to yield again. I get rid of all the trash. I throw away the videos and the porn. I delete the websites and the photos. I say I will avoid the porn shops and the cruising areas. I will not go near that bar again. I will tear up those phone numbers. I will pray that he doesn’t call me again. I will delete those chat sites. I’ll get a net-guard for my computer. I’ll get rid of the internet altogether. I’m done with it all!" So you say!

How much you want a life of purity again once the sin is done with! How much you want to have your relationship with the Father restored. How sincere you are about avoiding temptation now. How sure you are that was the last time. You want a new start. You promise to cease sinning. If you could only feel the way you feel now when you are tempted. If you could let yourself really face the emotional consequences you feel now. If…if…if!

Satan, your spirit-enemy, can do great harm to you when it comes to your sexual sins. One of Satan’s favorite weapons against a Christian man is to have you look at your sin as a total mass rather than looking at this sin. He gets you to look at your past or future and say to yourself, "See, I always sinned like this in the past, and I’ll always sin like this in the future!" He gets you to look at yourself in pride, not yourself in Christ, and gets you to make global discouraging, hopeless statements after you have sinned. This is the way he lies to you.

The difference between Satan’s generalities about sin in your life and God’s genuine conviction about your sin, is that God always sees you in Christ and therefore sin never has the last word. Your Father has the last word! He doesn’t see sin as defeat but opportunity for you to recognize your complete dependence on Him and your Father-son relationship. Sin is revelation! It reveals your weakness and need for reliance on your Father.

Your Father only points to this one sin now and what you have to do about this particular time of sinning. So if you want to know if it is God’s conviction of sin or Satan’s tormenting of you about sin, understand that God never condemns and always points to your current sin only. You’ll never hear your Father say, "See what a total mess you are, see how you have always been a wretched sinner." When you hear that kind of talk inside, it is either from Satan or from your own troubled ego. Discern the difference wisely.

ACTION

What to do when you have sinned

First, know that your Father wants you back. He wants you back immediately! He doesn’t want you to wait a day or a week or even an hour! He wants you back into fervent, faithful fellowship with Him as soon as possible. You see; His relationship to you is permanent and faithful and eternal. He doesn’t change His mind about you. Your Father is not like humans who are fickle and sensitive and seek revenge. You are His son and He loves you dearly. So come back to Him now!

You would not even bother to read this, if His Spirit was not already working in you and loving you. He has already begun to come and find you and bring you back into fellowship with Him. It is because His Spirit is already speaking within you of the Father’s love that you are even desirous of returning to your Father. Listen: "I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him." (Luke 18-20) Say this Prayer: Father, I thank you that you are already seeking me to return to you. Thankyou for your faithfulness and perseverance with me! "If you had one hundred sheep, and one of them strayed away and was lost in the wilderness, wouldn't you leave the ninety-nine others to go and search for the lost one until you found it?

Second, understand that in every close relationship, like the one which you have with your Father God, there will be offense. And that offense creates greater endearment and love It is inevitable that parents disappoint their children, children disappoint their parents, husbands and wives, and friends disappoint each other. While your heavenly Father does not disappoint you, you will at times fall short of your sonship. Your Father knows this. However, you will come to understand that offending Him is opportunity for Him to love you even more; to accept you; to show mercy; to draw you closer to Him and to give you opportunity to experience His great love for you. What is divine forgiveness after all but His love renewed in you. Listen: "I tell you, her sins – and they are many – have been forgiven, so she has shown me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love." Say this Prayer: Father, You know that my behavior has been repeated and selfish. I have sinned much and don’t deserve your love and endurance. But You continue to love me and receive me and renew me. Even when my sin increases so does Your love. Praise You my Father God! Lord Jesus Christ, You are the Lamb of God; you take away the sins of the world. Through the grace of the Holy Spirit restore me to friendship with Your Father, cleanse me from every stain of sin and raise me to new life for the glory of Your name.

Third, know that your Father wants to forgive you. That He has only merciful feelings and desires towards you. Don’t mistake human anger and revenge for how God reacts to you. You are His purchased son. Listen: " For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon Thee." Psalms 86:5 Say this Prayer: Father God, thank you that you want to restore me and forgive me. That you hold no revenge and anger toward me! Father You are wonderful!

Notice fourthly that, as it says above, you must call upon Him. "The LORD is close to all who call on him, yes, to all who call on him sincerely." All you have to do is to call on Him; call out to Him. This literally means to speak either out loud or say such words in your heart sincerely. You have to get personal with your Father again. Say this Prayer: Father, I CALL out to You right now. I want you to know that I am calling on You and will speak to You about my sins. Hear me Lord. I know that You will.

Fifth, be honest about your sin. "If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us." "When I refused to confess my sin, I was weak and miserable, and I groaned all day long." 1 John 1:9: "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Say this Prayer: Father, I will not pretend or hide what I have done wrong. It is wrong because it is sin and sin is being off the mark. You are the mark I want to reach and attain. I have sinned. Father, I name and confess my sins right now…………..!

Sixth, be repentant and sorry as much as you can be sincerely. "The sacrifice you want is a broken spirit. A broken and repentant heart, O God, you will not despise". But if you warn them and they repent, they will live, and you will have saved your own life, too." Say this Prayer: O God, my loving Father, I am sorry for my sins. O my God, because You are so good, I am very sorry that I have sinned against You. With the help of Your Grace, I will try not to sin again. Help me Father, I am so weak and vulnerable. Help me Lord Jesus Christ. Help me by your precious Blood, your holy Cross, your Crown of Thorns, your Nail Pierced Hands and feet, your bruised and beaten Body, help me by the endurance of your reviled and mocked goodness, by your holy dignity and wounds. Help me Jesus!

My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against You Whom I should love above all things. I firmly intend, with Your help, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin. Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for me. In His name, my Father God, have mercy.

Seven, ask the Lord your Father God to cleanse you, renew you and purify you. Say this psalm prayer.

Psalm 51: Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins.

51:2 Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin.

51:3 For I recognize my shameful deeds – they haunt me day and night.

51:4 Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. You will be proved right in what you say, and your judgment against me is just.

51:5 For I was born a sinner – yes, from the moment my mother conceived me.

51:6 But you desire honesty from the heart, so you can teach me to be wise in my inmost being.

51:7 Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.

51:8 Oh, give me back my joy again; you have broken me – now let me rejoice.

51:9 Don't keep looking at my sins. Remove the stain of my guilt.

51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me. 51:11 Do not banish me from your presence, and don't take your Holy Spirit from me.

51:12 Restore to me again the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.

Now lastly, remember that if you are a son of your Father; if you are in Christ Jesus, even your sin cannot separate you from the love the Father has for you in His Son Christ Jesus.

Read this familiar passage again under His Spirit in light of your sin:

ROMANS 8:28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. 8:29 For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn, with many brothers and sisters. 8:30 And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And he gave them right standing with himself, and he promised them his glory. 8:31 What can we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? 8:32 Since God did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won't God, who gave us Christ, also give us everything else? 8:33 Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? Will God? No! He is the one who has given us right standing with himself. 8:34 Who then will condemn us? Will Christ Jesus? No, for he is the one who died for us and was raised to life for us and is sitting at the place of highest honor next to God, pleading for us. 8:35 Can anything ever separate us from Christ's love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or are hungry or cold or in danger or threatened with death? 8:36 (Even the Scriptures say, "For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep." 8:37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. 8:38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can't, and life can't. The angels can't, and the demons can't. Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, and even the powers of hell can't keep God's love away. 8:39 Whether we are high above the sky or in the deepest ocean, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
