What is the Forty Day Intensive Program?
..................Do you need help for sexual addiction and compulsiveness? Are you caught up in such things as compulsive masturbation, or pornography, or sexual encounters with same-sex people? Do you only have "S" days (Sexual) and very few "A" (Abstinence) days? The Forty Day Intensive Program (I-40) may be helpful for you. The I-40 Program is a concentrated 40 days of sexual accountability, learning about yourself as a person dealing with homosexuality and with sexual addictiveness, improving your relationship to God Our Father through daily spiritual reflection from His Word, and engaging in responsive reporting. During these forty days, I will give you periodic encouragment and feedback. All of which facilitate your development as a more Christian, Adult, Sexually Mature, Man and therefore contributes to the overall resolution of homosexuality. The program helps you to use these startegies and concentrate them within a time-limited, intensive and productive focus.
Rationale for the I-40 Program!
................You know that preoccupation with sex is destructive to your emotional, spiritual and social growth. It interferes with your life in numerous ways. You may already be seeing how it has harmed your life and relationships. When sex becomes addictive and compulsive it can lead to relationship, employent, emotional, legal and social problems. For Christian men, it clearly compromises your relationship to God.
.......... It is my experience that God Our Father in His love for the addict will stop you if you cannot stop yourself. He allows you to experience a "break-up, a break-down, so that you can make a break-through and break-out" of your former compulsive, impulsive, obsession with the sexual. I have found that He usually allows a crisis to enter a person's life when they are out of control sexually. It seems to take one or all of four forms: (1) The person becomes extremely emotionally miserable, depressed, troubled to the point of some form of emotional breakdown. (2) The person's physical, medical health is effected by sexually risky behavior, or by mental health related complications. (3) The person finds himself in serious trouble with his family, and other relationships. (4) The person gets in trouble with the law. Before your loving Father administers serious discipline,you may want to consider this program!
........... The I-40 is especially for sexually addicted men who are caught in the homosexual dilemma and who maintain themselves in a somewhat insulated and self-protective safety zone or lifestyle of secrecy and duplicity. You may be a committed Christian man, leader, church elder or even a church pastor; but find yourself caught up in the homosexual struggle of sexual compulsions. As long as you remain within this zone of safety and secrecy, you may cope and function adequately, avoiding unmanageable stress, tension, anxiety or crisis. But you also find yourself compromised, you feel hypocritical, deceptive, remote, false and empty. You live with a troubled conscience and a divided heart. This affords you a certain counterfeit peace and pseudo-security, though it is one which limits your growth and maturity in many important ways.
...............Within this safety zone lifestyle, homosexuality often serves a function as a comforting, pleasuring, euphoric release, relief and outlet. You therefore find homosexual expression difficult to discard or relinquish. Each time you attempt to limit or discontinue it's expression, you probably find yourself tense, disquieted and uncomfortable. Therefore you return to it periodically or compulsively. It enables you to maintain your safety zone lifestyle. Unfortunately, as long as you remain in this safety zone lifestyle, you are only continuing to get by. You feel lukewarm spiritually, you sin and often feel backslidden. You are constantly battling with sin and failure. Real growth only begins to take place when you willingly and decidedly challenge this comfortable lifestyle. And though this lifestyle affords you relative peace, adaptability, and coping, there are many times when you recognize that you are fundamentally lonely, empty and not growing emotionally or spiritually.
............... Homosexuality has become a comfortable and familiar part of this safe landscape. Only when you are willing to, encouraged to, challenged, and committed to leave your safety zone lifestyle and risk thinking, seeing, feeling, acting and experiencing in new ways, does change and growth begin to occur. But you have probably lived in fear of being found out or exposed. You need a safe and confidential way to admit your struggle; to be honest, and receive assistance.
.................This program helps you to do this and allows the function of your sexuality to change and lose it's insistent need as comforter, pleasure-giver, outlet and tranquilizer. Therefore you can see that, in essence, homosexuality is a symptom of other factors. This intensive forty day program is designed to help you to break through this psycho-social safety zone and make positive change.
Who is the I-40 Program For?
...........As stated above, the I-40 is especially for men who need a shorter-term concentrated framework to break out of compulsive, addictive sexual behavior patterns. Some men more effectively break out of and breakthrough this dilemma by making shorter, time-limited, concentrated efforts with short-range goals and achievements. For some, placing all their energy into a shorter intensive period of time serves to help them break out of their lifestyle of complacency, failure, obsessive and compulsive sexual behavior. That's what this program offers, and so you must be able to make the kind of committment of time and energy which such a concentrated program demands of you. Ultimately, the decision to participate in the I-40 Program is yours after you pray about it. But let's discuss it together if you'd like.
Goals in the I-40 Program
.........The Central overall Goal of the Program is to help you become a more Adult, Christian, Sexually Mature, Man. Such maturity is the foundation of your other important goal of resolving homosexuality.
How does the I-40 Program Work?
..........The Program operates for Forty Consecutive Days from the starting date. It is designed to give you a "kick-start" in getting control over out-of-control sexual behavior. It takes advantage of the reality that you may be able to maintain a peak level of motivation for this period of time, thus experiencing success in your self-control and self-discipline. It is less focused on "orientation" issues and more on "behavioral" issues. Set a date to begin the I-40 Program, (a start and end date).

..................A good program of sexual self-control and management involves seven important points of focus:
1. Lifestyle changes
2. Relationship improvement
3. Spiritual enhancement
4 .Professional assistance
5. Personal accountability
6. Self-management
7. People support
...............The I-40 will help you examine each of these areas to some extent. However, it’s main focus in on (3,4,5,6) the elements of spiritual enhancement, accountability, assistance and self-management. ................. You will be making a DAILY ACCOUNTABILITY REPORT (the only form you will return to me) by e-mail from the very first day and every day of the forty days. This involves sending me an e-mail each day of your Daily Accountability Report. Throughout the program I will be giving you some periodic encouragement, support and feedback especially when you request it. If you should have behavior falls or slips
during the program, this doesn't mean you should discontinue but rather pick yourself up and continue to the end of the program. If you complete the 40 days successfully you will have taken a major step in resolving homosexuality and in gaining new self-control and an improved peace with yourself, others and Our Father God..
